She wouldn't open her fingers, clasped the bag her mother held so tightly, as if it were life saving. A look at her and she looks, away with an" i hate you, go away" look. I try to lift her and she tightens her grip. Helplessly she looks at her mother for help. Helplessly, the mother looks at me for help. My heart goes out to the girl. A toddler, just two comes to me for making a memory...of her first day at school. .....Something on my table attracts her attention. Its a globe. Her tiny fingers go out to grasp the globe. It is too big for her to hold. She leans forward, leaves the lap and stands up. My eyes , ( now with practice) inform the mother to leave quietly.
She doesn't know what to do with the globe. I rotate it gently. she smiles at me. I hold her hand and we rotate the globe together. The tiny fingers now trust me.
Help is at hand....the mother leaves quietly. I play the role now for 3 hours everyday.
